John West Féile na nGael 2024
2024 marks the 50th year of Camogie in the renowned Féile na nGael National competition. Tipperary’s Boherlahan Dualla Camogie Club have just added their name to the Division 1 Roll of Honour becoming just the 4th Tipperary Club to do so. Templemore won in 1996, Cahir in 2011 and Newport in 2012.
It turned out to be third time lucky for Boherlahan Dualla Camogie Club. In 2022 they reached the All Ireland Final but lost out to a very strong Éire Óg team from Cork. Last year they suffered huge disappointment in the All Ireland Semi-Final.
This year they won theTipperary title in April and headed for The Wexford GAA Centre of Excellence last Saturday hoping that this would be their year.
The first group game saw them take on Faughs Celtic (Dublin). An excellent performance in the first game saw them win on a scoreline of 3-8 to 1-0. In the second game they faced the highly fancied Aghabullogue (Cork). After a really tough game it ended all square at 0-5 apiece. In the last group game they played the famous Oulart The Ballagh (Wexford) A serious performance ensured a comprehensive win in this game. 5-10 to 0-0.
They had topped their group and so faced Bennettsbridge (Kilkenny) in their Semi- Final, while Athenry and Aghabullogue earned the other two semi final spots. Boherlahan Dualla had another impressive team performance to win the semi- final. 3-9 to 0-7. On the other side in a close game Aghabullogue got the better of Athenry.
The All Ireland final was set Boherlahan Dualla (Tipperary) V Aghabullogue (Cork). The Tipperary girls had the wind in the first half and led 0-5 to 0-2 at half time. Aghabullogue came back very strongly in the second half and brought Boherlahan’s lead back to just one point but Boherlahan Dualla were not leaving the trophy behind this time. Their defence was immense and their forwards were on fire scoring 1-02 without reply to finally lift the trophy.
Great scenes of jubilation followed as huge crowds of supporters flowed onto the pitch. Hundreds turned out for their homecoming in Dualla, Ballytarsna and Boherlahan on Sunday evening last. It was a weekend that will live long in the memories of the young and old who were present. A perfect way for them to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their Camogie Club which was reformed in 2004.
